What are the eligibility criteria for Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL) / Extended Childcare Leave (ECL)?
Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL)
Parents can enjoy 6 days of Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL) if they meet the following criteria:
Child is a Singapore Citizen, or becomes a Singapore Citizen within the 12-month relevant period
Youngest child is aged below 7 years old
For employees: Parent must have served their employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months
For self-employed: Parent must be engaged in a particular trade, business, profession or vocation for a continuous period of at least 3 months, and have lost income from ceasing to be actively engaged during the GPCL period
Extended Childcare Leave (ECL)
Parents can enjoy up to 2 days of Extended Childcare Leave (ECL) if they meet the following criteria:
Child is a Singapore Citizen, or becomes a Singapore Citizen within the 12-month relevant period
Youngest child is aged between 7 and 12 years old (both inclusive)
For employees: Parent must have served their employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months
For self-employed: Parent must be engaged in a particular trade, business, profession or vocation for a continuous period of at least 3 months, and have lost income from ceasing to be actively engaged during ECL period
Additional Information:
Adoptive parents are eligible only after the Adoption Order is passed
Step-parents are eligible only after they are married to the child's natural parent
Foster parents/kin carers are eligible only for the duration the child is under their care
Legal guardians are eligible only after the Order of Court is passed
