Will the Bill provide any protection for SRH staff, such as care staff and social workers who are abused by clients?

Protection for SRH staff falls outside of the scope of this Bill. However, individuals who harm or hurt our SRH staff, can be charged under the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA) and Penal Code. Under POHA, there are enhanced penalties, for persons who harass or abuse public service workers, such as our SRH staff. MSF has also launched a protection framework for social service workers in June 2024. Under this framework, social service workers who experience any verbal or physical harassment are encouraged to report the matter to the police. Thereafter, MSF will appoint a dedicated officer to act as a point of contact for the social service worker, to liaise with the police, and guide the social service worker throughout the case. Where necessary, MSF will also advise and guide the social service worker to pursue civil remedies in the form of a magistrate's complaint. MSF is working with SRHs to implement a supportive culture of reporting, training to manage challenging situations and deter abuse, and effective post-incident support.
