How much does an adoption cost?

Enquiries on Pre-Adoption Briefing (PAB) & Disclosure Workshop

You may incur some of these costs during the adoption process:


Mandatory Briefings

·       Pre-Adoption Briefing (PAB): $50 per participant or $100 per couple for group briefings

·       Disclosure Briefing (DB): $50 per participant or $100 per couple for group briefings

·       Please check with the AAA for rates of customised, individual PAB and DB sessions

Adoption Suitability Assessment (ASA)

Biological child and Stepchild Adoption: $1,100 for the first assessment, and $315 for each additional child

·       Unrelated child Adoption: $2,000

New Dependant’s Pass Application

·       $330

·       Additional $30 multi-journey visa fee depending on the child’s country of origin (e.g. this fee is applicable for children from Vietnam and the Philippines).

Dependent Extension Fees

·       $225 

Administrative Fees for Guardian-in-Adoption (GIA) Investigation and Affidavit

·       $250 


Please note that the above costs do not include your legal fees or adoption-related payments made to or through community or commercial adoption agencies.


If you are required to obtain medical reports or psychological reports during GIA investigations, the costs will be borne by you.

If you require financial assistance for the above, you may check with the Legal Aid Bureau (LAB) if you meet LAB’s means and merits test requirement for legal assistance.
