Adoption Suitability Assessment (ASA)	Biological child and Stepchild Adoption: $1,100 for the first assessment, and $315 for each additional child

	· Additional $30 multi-journey visa fee depending on the child’s country of origin (e.g. this fee is applicable for children from Vietnam and the Philippines).
Dependent Extension Fees	· $225

Administrative Fees for Guardian-in-Adoption (GIA) Investigation and Affidavit	· $250

Please note that the above costs do not include your legal fees or adoption-related payments made to or through community or commercial adoption agencies.

If you are required to obtain medical reports or psychological reports during GIA investigations, the costs will be borne by you.

The GIA has a duty to safeguard the welfare of the child involved in adoption proceedings. The GIA assesses each adoption application and prepares an affidavit on the GIA’s findings relevant to the adoption, including but not limited to, the applicants’ suitability to adopt. The current GIA fee of $250 was set more than 20 years ago, and does not reflect the intensity and resources required for a GIA assessment. Thus, the fee payable to the GIA will be progressively increased, with the first increase from $250 to $750 taking effect from 1 April 2025. Further increases will take place in 2027 and 2030. Additional fees will also be charged for appeals by prospective adopters to the GIA, e.g. in the event of an unfavourable Adoption Suitability Assessment.
