What is Pre-Adoption Briefing (PAB)? When should I attend? Is there a validity period? How much does it cost? How do I register?
All prospective adopters (including those wishing to adopt a biological or stepchild) must attend a mandatory Pre-Adoption Briefing (PAB), conducted by Authorised Adoption Agencies (AAA), before applying for the Adoption Suitability Assessment (ASA).
The PAB lasts about two hours and is conducted in English, or Mandarin. You and your spouse are encouraged to attend the PAB together. The PAB covers topics such as the procedures to adopt a child, the legal implications of adoption, and the rights, duties, obligations, and liabilities of adoptive parents.
PAB helps Applicants to:
o Understand the adoption process and the eligibility criteria for adoption in Singapore.
o Understand your rights and responsibilities as an adoptive parent.
o Understand the needs of an adopted child and how you can parent him/her.
o Know where you can get support in your parenting journey with the adopted child.
The validity period of the PAB attendance is 3 years – you are required to attend another PAB if the last PAB you attended was more than 3 years ago.
PAB for each participant is $50 for group briefings.
Please check with the AAA for rates of customised, individual PAB and DB sessions.
If you wish to adopt an unrelated child, please register for the PAB for adoption of unrelated children. If you wish to adopt a stepchild, please register for the PAB for adopting stepchildren.
