The number of working days a week will be determined based on various work pattern scenarios of the parent, subject to a cap of 6 days.

Work Pattern

Determination of number of working days a week (subject to a maximum of 6 days)

For a parent whose number of work days is the same in every week

  • Number of work days in a week

For a parent whose number of working days varies from one work week to another, but there is a consistent or regular pattern repeated over a fixed number of weeks

  • The total number of work days in the fixed number of weeks which the pattern is repeated

  • Example: 5 and 6 working days on alternate weeks.
    Number of working days a week = (5 + 6) / 2 = 5.5 days

For a parent whose number of work days varies from one week to another and there is no regular pattern repeated over a fixed number of weeks

  • The average number of work days in a week over the period of 3 weeks immediately preceding the respective applicable period below:

Government-Paid Maternity Leave

Whichever is earliest:

a. The first day of maternity leave

b. Child’s date of birth

c. When all eligibility criteria are met

Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL)/Extended Childcare Leave (ECL)

Whichever is later:

a. The start of the current relevant period

b. The date on which the parent qualifies for GPCL or ECL (as the case may be), in the relevant period

(For natural fathers) Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL)/2013 - Shared Parental Leave (2013-SPL)/SPL

a. When all eligibility criteria are fulfilled.

(For adoptive mothers) Adoption Leave for Mothers (AL)/SPL
(For adoptive fathers) GPPL/2013-SPL/SPL

a. For Singapore citizen adopted child: Date when an application to adopt is made to the Court,

b. For non-Singapore citizen adopted child: Date when the Dependent's Pass (DP) is issued in respect of the child, or the document indicating approval

Note:

  • Any day in which the parent is required to work for more than or equal to 5 hours is considered as 1 work day. Any shorter is considered as half a work day.

  • Any duration calculated as a multiple of the number of working days a week, if not a whole number of days, is to be rounded down to the nearest half day or whole day.
