What kind of support would foster parents receive?
Upon being placed with a child, foster families would receive a monthly fostering allowance. This allowance helps to defray the costs of caring for the child. These include school fees, transport fees, daily school allowance, textbooks, tuition fees, meals and clothing.
Foster parents are also given childcare subsidies if they need to place the child in childcare.
Medical expenses would be fully covered for when the child visits a polyclinic or government hospital.
Foster parents are supported by a team of professionals, including counsellors and psychologists.
MSF also provides training to equip them with skills to parent their foster child, and a 24-hour hotline for them to call in the case of emergencies.
