Can I make deductions to the Government-paid component of my employee's maternity benefits?

You should not make salary deductions to the Government-paid component of your employee’s maternity benefits.

You should pay your employee her maternity benefits first, and then seek reimbursement from the Government, based on the payments made.

Any compensation or recovery of amounts should generally be recovered directly from your employee, rather than through a salary deduction.
