Please see an overview of the process for setting up a law practice in Singapore:

a) Apply via LSRA e-Services for a law practice entity licence.

b) Upon receiving in-principle approval from LSRA, you will have 3 months to register the business entity with Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority ("ACRA") and obtain a Singpass for the law practice.

c) Purchase the professional indemnity insurance for the law practice.

d) Submit a copy of the purchased professional indemnity insurance policy and the UEN details via LSRA e-Services.

e) Submit a copy of the ACRA business profile of your law practice via Contact Us @OneMinlaw.

f) Thereafter, the law practice licence will be issued.

g) Apply via LSRA e-Services for a Certificate of Registration for the foreign lawyers who will be practising in the law practice. Singapore solicitors should apply to Supreme Court for their Singapore practising certificates via eLitigation.

h) Apply to the Ministry of Manpower for a work pass for the foreign lawyers who will be practising in the law practice.

i) Commence operations of the law practice within 6 months of the licence validity date.

Please note that licence applications may take around 3-16 weeks to process, commencing when all required supporting documents and information have been received. Applications that are incomplete, complex (e.g. involving concurrent appointments in more than one law practice entity, foreign interests in Singapore law practices and/or collaborations between Singapore and foreign law practice entities) or submitted during the peak period from December to April may require more time to process. You are therefore advised to submit your licence application in good time.
