Do I have to repay my creditors before commencing the Debt Repayment Scheme ("DRS")?
During the period of assessment and prior to the commencement of the DRS, the debtor's creditors have the right to recover payment from him and institute legal action. As such, the debtor is still obliged to pay his creditors. A debtor must inform the case administrator and provide the receipts as proof of payment.
Upon commencement of the Debt Repayment Plan, creditors will receive periodic payments and the debtor should not make any preferential payments to his creditors. These will continue until the completion of the payments as set out in the terms of the Plan.
