How is MUP paid?

There are two payment methods for Make-Up Pay (MUP) claims: 1) Employers on Direct Reimbursement to Employers of Claims for NS Training (DIRECT) Scheme 2) Employers not on DIRECT Scheme Employers registered with the DIRECT Scheme should continue to pay your employees what you would normally pay them per your regular pay schedule. You should pay the full sums of their basic salaries and ?xed allowance components they are eligible for, as well as additional payments (e.g., overtime pay) or variable payments (e.g., commissions) typically paid to them on a monthly basis. For additional and/or variable payments, your company can determine the amount you would have typically paid to your employee, based on an average of the NSman/SV's past variable payments received prior to their ORNS/SV activity. MINDEF/MHA will reimburse your company the auto-generated MUP amounts. If NSmen are eligible for the base NS Pay (minimum of $1,600 pro-rated by the duration of the ORNS activity), MINDEF/MHA will credit the difference between the base NS Pay and their civilian income loss directly to the NSmen's bank accounts. Employers not registered with the DIRECT Scheme should deduct your employees' salaries based on the amount of time they were away from work due to ORNS activities. MINDEF/MHA will reimburse your employees directly with the auto-generated MUP amounts. You may register for the DIRECT Scheme and update your company's bank account details on the 'Employee Payment Management eService. The change will take effect on the next working day.
