Updated by MHA Foreign spouses of Singapore Citizens (SCs) are considered more favourably for Permanent Residency (PR) or citizenship compared to those without family ties to Singaporeans.
All PR and citizenship applications from foreign spouses are evaluated holistically on a range of criteria to ensure that the SC sponsor can support the family and that the marriage is stable. For example, we take into consideration the length of marriage and whether the couple has any SC children.
Eligible foreign spouses who do not qualify for PR may be granted a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) or LTVP-Plus (LTVP+) which allows them to remain in Singapore with their families. The LTVP+ was introduced in 2012 to provide foreign spouses of SCs greater certainty of stay. Compared to ordinary LTVPs, they provide a longer period of residency and additional benefits such as subsidies for inpatient services in public hospitals.
Foreign spouses on LTVP or LTVP+ can also obtain a Letter of Consent or Pre-Approved Letter of Consent to work. Contact us
