Why is QR code introduced for immigration clearance?

Updated by ICA

Travellers arriving and departing via Singapore land checkpoints by car, motorcycle, lorry or bus can use QR codes in lieu of passports for faster and more convenient immigration clearance.
Instead of using passports at the immigration lanes, travellers will only need to scan the QR code, which they have generated via the MyICA mobile app prior to arriving at the checkpoint, for immigration clearance.
