Can the school consider relaxing demerit points for mobile phone use if students are using them for school purposes, especially as CCA information is sometimes sent via Google Chat during school hours?
The school understands the concern. School-related communications sent via Google Chat can be accessed through students’ Personal Learning Devices (PLDs), which are configured within the school’s Digital Management Application (DMA) framework and are used under teacher supervision during curriculum time.
Unlike personal mobile phones, PLDs operate within a managed ecosystem designed to support learning. Teachers regulate when devices may be used in class, and students are expected to access only relevant materials at appropriate times.
As such, there is no operational need for students to use their personal mobile phones to check school-related messages during school hours. The existing mobile phone policy therefore remains in place to ensure consistency, minimise unnecessary distractions, and maintain a focused learning environment.
