Can I apply for a normal TradeNet permit instead of a Strategic Goods permit to bring in or transit strategic goods?

The Strategic Goods (Control) Act (SGCA) does not regulate the importation of strategic goods. A general TradeNet import permit, rather than a strategic goods permit, is still required prior to the import of any strategic good into Singapore.

All tangible strategic goods transactions (export, transhipment, bringing in transit) under the Strategic Trade Scheme (STS) Individual and Bulk Permits must be carried out under a TradeNet permit with the relevant required information declared.

The TradeNet permit should carry the correct Customs Procedure Code, Processing Code 1 and Processing Code 2 (as applicable) and all other relevant information for the STS Individual or Bulk Permit. The permit number of the approved permit application must carry either an "XO" prefix, if it is for export, transhipment and transit, an "XP" prefix.

It is an offence to carry out the transactions under a TradeNet permit with the wrong permit information.

Detailed information on the TradeNet declaration procedures for transactions under the STS can be found on the Strategic Goods Control webpage.
