Many individuals purchase Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) and riders despite MediShield Life provides adequate protection for subsidised care in public hospitals. What is being done to improve consumer education around IPs and riders?
Ministry of Health (MOH) and CPF Board (CPFB) are enhancing public education about healthcare financing through several initiatives.
The Health Insurance Planner helps you evaluate your coverage needs and long-term affordability based on your care preferences and financial situation.
MOH launched a healthcare financing education campaign in June 2024 to explain how different insurance schemes work together. They also started publishing comparisons of lifetime premiums across Integrated Shield Plans (IPs). These complement existing resources on MOH's website about IP benefits, features, premiums, and insurer service indicators like claims processing times.
Additionally, MOH and CPFB collaborate with MoneySense, Singapore's national financial education programme, to provide guidance on IP purchases through educational articles and resources.
These efforts aim to help Singaporeans understand how MediShield Life coverage can meet their needs for subsidised care in public hospitals, and to weigh the costs and benefits of additional private coverage.
