Can I release free-flying helium balloons in Singapore?

Updated by CAAS

Large clusters of free-flying helium balloons may distract pilots of aircraft, including helicopters operating at low levels. If these objects are ingested by aircraft engines, they can cause engine damage and endanger lives. As such, there are restrictions in place concerning the release of free-flying helium balloons in Singapore.

During the operating hours of military aerodromes, the release of free-flying helium balloons is strictly prohibited.

Outside the operating hours of military aerodromes, the release of free-flying helium balloons is allowed but subject to the following requirements:

Within 5km of any airport or airbase

Permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) required

Outside 5km of any airport or airbase

Notification to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) required

In all cases, individually or as a cluster, the balloons must not exceed 2 meters in any linear dimension.
