What will happen if I release free-flying helium balloons in areas where it is restricted?

It is an offence to release free-flying helium balloons during operating hours of the military aerodromes. Additionally, outside the above operating hours, it is an offence to release free-flying helium balloons:

  • Within 5km of any airport or airbase without a permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) at least 7 working days before the activity;

  • Outside 5km of any airport or airbase without due notification to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) at least 7 working days before the activity.

Anyone convicted of these offences may be fined up to $20,000. Repeat offenders may be fined up to $40,000, or imprisoned for up to 15 months, or both.
