Sky lanterns may pose a fire hazard or be a danger to aircraft operating in the vicinity. Furthermore, if these objects are ingested by aircraft engines, they can cause engine damage and endanger lives.

During operating hours of the military aerodromes, the release of sky lanterns is strictly prohibited. Outside these, the release of sky lanterns is subject to a safety assessment and may be allowed on a case-by-case basis.
