What are the dangers of pointing a laser light at an aircraft?

Laser lights pointed directly at aircraft pose a hazard as they may distract the pilot or aircrew while they are operating the aircraft. In severe cases, powerful laser lights can cause temporary flash blindness and even serious eye injuries.
