What are the eligibility criteria for Nursing Home Respite Care (NHRC)?

To apply for the Nursing Home Respite Care (NHRC) service, the Care Recipient must meet the following conditions

He/She must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident (PR),


Has passed the household means testing (HHMT) for intermediate and long-term care subsidies and must be able to co-pay for the service required,


Has moderate to high nursing care needs (e.g. is semi-mobile, wheelchair-bound or bed-bound, needs daily nursing care and/or help in personal care such as feeding, toileting and transferring, has physical or mental disabilities because of medical conditions such as stroke, dementia and other chronic diseases),

Applying due to the one of the following reasons such as:

  • Primary Caregiver requires medical treatment

  • Disruptions in physical living arrangements (e.g. renovations, home upgrading),

  • Migrant Domestic Worker (FDW) is going on home leave and/or

  • Caregiver requires a break from prolonged caregiving.

There must be a discharge care plan for the care recipient after the period of respite care.
