How can I apply for reduced practice (with lower CME requirements and lower-fee PC)?
To apply for reduced practice, you must meet the criteria in Q1 and submit the application at least 1 month before your current PC expiry date. Please follow the steps below.
A. Steps to apply for Reduced Practice
(i) Log in to the SMC Professional Registration System using your Singpass.
(ii) Select “Application for Reduced Practice”
Please note that your Start Date of Reduced Practice should not be a past date.

Please ensure that you read and understand the declaration statements before ticking them.

(iii) Update of Personal Particulars
For doctors who wish to update their particulars (eg. end date of current employment), please login to the SMC PRS with your Singpass.
Click to ‘Administration’ -> ‘Update Particulars’ function;
Select the 2nd radio button for: Identification Type/No. (for update of NRIC/Passport/EP), Name, Nationality, Residential Status and Employment details. Please follow the guided frames for the required action to submit the online application.
Note:
Once approved, doctors in Reduced Practice will have their compulsory CPE requirements lowered to:
a. 10 points per year for those holding a 1-year PC; or 20 points per 2 years for those holding a 2-year PC; and
b. There will be no core point requirements nor a cap on points earned within any CPE category.
B. Application for Lower-fee PC during PC Renewal period
Upon approval for the "Reduced Practice" application, you may login to SMC website here at the next PC renewal exercise to submit your Lower-fee PC application after you have met all the prevailing requirements. The application fee for 2-year Lower-fee PC is $300, 1-year Lower-fee PC is $150.

Please note that doctors whose PC has lapsed or expired are not eligible to apply for Reduced Practice. If you allow your PC to be lapsed or expired, you will be required to fulfil 50 CME points of which 10 core points must be in each of your registered specialties to apply for a new Full-fee PC. For new PC granted from 1 Jan 2026 onwards, doctors are required to accumulate 50 CME points, of which 10 core points in each of your registered specialty and/or Family Medicine; and 5 Mandatory Medical Ethics (MME) core points within 24 months prior to the application for a new Full-fee PC.
