Updated by SGH-AHPEDIA Start with single-hole teats with slow flow. There are no industry standards for flow rates, so "extra-slow" from one brand may be faster than another's. Signs the flow is too fast include: milk leaking from mouth, loud gulping, coughing and choking, struggling and breath-holding, squirming during feeds, or appearing sleepy while feeding but waking when bottle is removed. If breastfeeding too, choose teats with gradual, gentle slopes and wide bases to support good oral motor skills.
