Is coughing normal during eating or drinking?

Updated by SGH-AHPEDIA
Aspiration occurs when food or drink enters the airway (windpipe) instead of going down the food pipe (oesophagus). This can lead to chest infections or aspiration pneumonia if not managed properly. Signs may include coughing, choking, or a wet/gurgly voice after eating or drinking.
