Dysphonia is defined as a disorder of the voice, which involves any change in voice quality, pitch, or loudness that affects a person's ability to communicate at home and in work or social environments. Professional and occupational voice users are at risk of developing dysphonia through misuse or overuse of the voice. Dysphonia can also be a result of direct trauma to the larynx (voice box), or caused by certain medical conditions. If you find your voice problem to be persistent, you may wish to consult a speech therapist for treatment.
