Is the consent of both parties necessary for divorce proceedings to be carried out?

The consent of both parties is not required for the divorce to proceed.

If you choose to ignore the divorce filed against you, the court may conclude the case without your input and/or presence in court. The orders made will still be binding on both parties.

If you wish to contest the divorce proceedings, you must file a Notice of Contest and Reply. You may also file a cross-application. For more information on how you can respond to a divorce application, please refer to https://www.judiciary.gov.sg/family/respond-matrimonial-application-divorce-normal-track.
