How do I file for a divorce in Singapore in the Family Justice Courts?
If you are represented by a lawyer, your lawyer will file the divorce application on your behalf.
If you are representing yourself, and you and your spouse agree on the divorce (i.e. the terms of the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage) and the ancillary matters, you can choose to file the divorce application using the Divorce eService. The Divorce eService can be accessed at https://www.judiciary.gov.sg/services/e-platforms/divorce-eservice.
If you are representing yourself, and you and your spouse agree on the divorce (i.e. the terms of the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage), but not the ancillary matters, you may choose to file the divorce application on the simplified track. You can read more about filing the divorce application on the simplified track at https://www.judiciary.gov.sg/family/how-to-file-matrimonial-application-divorce-simplified-track.
If you and your spouse are unable to reach an agreement on the divorce (i.e. the terms of the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage), the application will be filed on the normal track. You can read more about filing the application on the normal track at https://www.judiciary.gov.sg/family/file-matrimonial-application-divorce-normal-track.
You will need to prepare the necessary documents and go down to any one of the SG Court Service Bureaus to file the documents.
For more information on the divorce process and the documents to be prepared, you may refer to the FJC’s brochure at https://www.judiciary.gov.sg/docs/default-source/family-docs/divorce_guide_english.pdf.
