If my son is not a prefect/head prefect/peer support leader/Exco, can he apply for the Leadership domain?
Yes, he can. Being in a leadership position alone is not what we are looking for. What is more important is how his character and/or personal qualities have benefitted others through his position.
For our Leadership & Character domain, we are looking for students with exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions as evidenced in any or all of the following:
- Resilience in the face of challenges or adversity (e.g. a student who overcame challenges and difficulties in his school/home life).
- Key leadership qualities (e.g. leadership position in CCAs/leadership boards).
- Commitment to service to the community or care for the environment (e.g. a student with a strong understanding/appreciation of, and sustained service to a specific community or for an environmental cause)
This also means that even if a student is not holding a leadership position, but can show evidence in any or all of the above ways, he can still be considered for the Leadership & Character domain. This is why, in addition to the student's primary school records, we ask students to submit a personal statement.
