Why do I need a witness for my solemnisation?

Having two witnesses for your solemnisation is one of the integrals (rukun) of Islamic marriage. The witnesses can be either from the groom or bride side. The names (as in their NRIC) and the witnesses' NRIC numbers are required when registering for marriage. The witnesses must be present for the solemnisation.
