How does tuberculosis (TB) Spread?

Updated by NTBP 5 found this helpful

TB is typically spread through prolonged exposure (days to weeks, rather than minutes to hours) to an individual with active TB disease.

When a patient with active TB disease coughs, TB bacteria is released into the air and may be inhaled by those around – prolonged exposure can result in acquiring TB infection.

A person cannot get TB from sharing cups, eating utensils, and food. TB is also not spread through shaking someone’s hand, kissing, or touching bed linens or toilet seats.
