If godparents who have no next-of-kin pass on and would like their godchile to manage their post-death matters, how will the godchild be able to apply for cremation and permit for ash scattering?
A person who is not a next-of-kin may still apply for a permit to cremate and act on behalf of the decease if:
a next-of-kin has authorised them to do so
the deceased has appointed them as an executor for their estate
If a godparent who has no next-of-kin wishes to authorise their godchild to act on their behalf, they are encouraged to draw up a will to appoint the godchild as the rightful executor of their wishes.
You may visit NEA's website for more information on post-death matters related to cremation and ash scattering https://www.nea.gov.sg/our-services/after-death/post-death-matters/burial-cremation-and-ash-storage for more information.
