If godparents who have no next-of-kin pass on and would like their godchild to manage their post-death matters, how will the godchild be able to apply for cremation and permit for ash scattering?
A person who is not a next-of-kin may still apply for a permit to cremate and act on behalf of the decease if:
a next-of-kin has authorised them to do so
the deceased has appointed them as an executor for their estate
The non‑NOK will need a Letter of Authorisation (LOA) from the deceased’s next‑of‑kin. The LOA template is available at: https://go.gov.sg/loa-nea-adfs.
When submitting the cremation or burial permit application on NEA’s e‑portal, please upload the completed LOA as part of the application. If you encounter issues with the submission and the matter is not resolved within 24 hours, please contact MyLegacy at go.gov.sg/edc for assistance.
You may visit NEA's website for more information on post-death matters related to cremation and ash scattering here for more information.
