Can non next-of-kins (e.g. social service practitioners, godchildren, funeral directors) download the digital death certificate for a deceased person with no next-of-kin (e.g. single elderly)?

Only Next-of-Kin of the deceased or persons authorised by the Next-of-Kin are allowed to download a copy of the digital death certificate from My Legacy.

The Next-of-Kin for this purpose are:

  • spouse,

  • parent,

  • child,

  • sibling,

  • grandparent,

  • grandchild,

  • aunt/uncle; and

  • niece/nephew.

For deceased with no immediate Next-of-Kin, individuals who are assisting in the post-death matters can approach the hospital or certifying doctor for a hardcopy printout of the death certificate.
