Can Muslims consume food that is not Halal-certified?

Updated by MUIS 10 found this helpful

Not all halal food is certified, as certification is voluntary. Muslims are required to consume halal food. In the absence of a halal certificate, Muslims should check, ask, and decide.

Check – If there's no halal logo, read the ingredients list or learn what common ingredients are used to make that particular dish. Check if there are any non-halal ingredients used.

Ask – If unsure, ask the manufacturer about the ingredients. For food establishments, ask the owner about the ingredients used.

Decide – Based on the information gathered, make an informed decision about whether the food meets halal requirements.

The consumption of food is an individual responsibility. Muslims can opt for food that is not endorsed as halal by any Islamic body as long as they are confident and can ensure that the food has been prepared according to Islamic law.
