Existing community funds and -hoc donations are useful for short-term needs in funding mosques' and madrasahs' operational costs, traditional giving or ad-hoc donations are insufficient to sustain institutions on a long-term basis.

At the height of the pandemic, mosques and madrasah were greatly affected due to the lack of a diversified fund collection system. For both mosques and madrasah, their main source of funding were physical public donations. Thus, they were unable to maintain collections during the pandemic.

Current structured funds such as, Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF), are meant only for the building of new mosques and infrastructure upgrading of existing mosques; whereas Zakat has to be disbursed to the 8 Asnaf (Zakat beneficiaries as specified in the Quran). Other funds such as OurMasjid.SG and OurMadrasah.SG complements physical ad-hoc donations to support the daily operations of our institutions.

Thus, this necessitates a funding system that is sustainable and resilient so that regardless of any crises, our mosques and madrasah can survive, our Asatizah can continue to be upgraded to better guide our community, and the critical and emerging needs of our people can continue to be taken care of. WMS will serve this role to support our current and future generations.
