The child order determines the level of Government-Paid Leave benefits a parent is entitled to. To determine the child order of the current child, count the number of times, as at the child's date of birth or Formal Intent to Adopt (FIA) date, that you have:

• Given birth (including stillbirths and children who have passed away)

• Made an application to adopt a child under Singapore law, where the child is below 12 months old and is a Singapore Citizen at the date of application

• Had a Dependant's Pass (DP) issued in respect of a child you intend to adopt under Singapore law, where the child is below 12 months old and is not a Singapore Citizen at the date of issuance

• Adopted a child under foreign law, where the child is below 12 months old at the time of adoption

Please also:

• Include the child who is the subject of the current application

• Exclude all step-children, foster children, and natural children who have been adopted by another person as at the date of birth or FIA date of the current child

• Exclude any applications to adopt a child who was naturally born to you

Additional notes

• Multiple births (e.g. twins) are counted as one child order.

• An adoption application is only counted if it has not been withdrawn or refused at the delivery or FIA date.

• A DP is only counted if it has not been rescinded or revoked at the delivery or FIA date.

Example

Mother A is taking GPML for Child A, delivered on 1 December 2021. She had previously delivered twins on 1 January 2020. She also adopted a child on 1 January 2022 (below 12 months old at the point of FIA), but this adoption occurred after Child A's birth and is therefore not counted.

Child A is Mother A's 2nd child order — the twins count as one child order, and Child A is the second.
