What is Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL) and what is the entitlement?
Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL) is a Singapore government scheme that provides eligible working fathers, including self-employed fathers, with paid leave to care for their newborn and support shared parental responsibility. The leave is reimbursed by the Government.
The entitlement depends on the child's date of birth:
Born before 1 January 2024: 2 weeks of mandatory GPPL, reimbursable by the Government.
Born between 1 January 2024 and 31 March 2025: Up to 4 weeks of GPPL, reimbursable by the Government. The first 2 weeks are mandatory. The additional 2 weeks are voluntary and subject to employer agreement, but will also be reimbursed by the Government if granted.
Born on or after 1 April 2025: 4 weeks of mandatory GPPL, reimbursable by the Government.
