What is the Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL) entitlement?
The Government-Paid Paternity Leave (GPPL) entitlement varies depending on when your child was born:
Children born before 1 Jan 2024
Fathers are entitled to up to 2 weeks of mandatory leave, reimbursable by the Government.
Children born between 1 Jan 2024 and 31 Mar 2025
Fathers are entitled to up to 4 weeks of leave, reimbursable by the Government. The first 2 weeks are mandatory, whilst the additional 2 weeks are subject to employer agreement¹.
Children born on or after 1 Apr 2025
Fathers are entitled to up to 4 weeks of mandatory leave, reimbursable by the Government.
¹ Employers can grant the additional 2 weeks of GPPL on a voluntary basis, which will be reimbursed by the Government.
