What is the difference between Day Activity Centres (DAC), Sheltered Workshops (SW) and Enabling Skills for Life Programme (ESLP)?
DACs are suitable for persons with disabilities with higher support needs who are unable to take up open employment or attend sheltered workshops. They focus on equipping clients with the skills needed to maximise their independence and provide respite for caregivers during the day.
SWs provide vocational training for persons with moderate support needs to equip them with basic job skills. Trainees earn allowances for their work and have opportunities to gain valuable work experience.
ESLP seeks to integrate and enhance the DAC and SW services, where persons with a range of support needs are brought together under one integrated programme. ESLP is focused on providing training for PwDs that will enable them to live in the community and obtain employment where possible. ESLP will be guided by person- and family- centred planning principles where clients will be able to access different forms of training and pathways based on their needs, which may evolve over their life course.
Beyond centre-based services, ESLP also provides home-based behavioural intervention according to the needs of PwDs, with the aim to stabilise and transit them into centre-based services over time.
