How can I receive the higher ComCare Short-to-Medium-Term Assistance (SMTA) rates announced in Budget 2025?
You can expect higher cash assistance if you make a new ComCare Short-to-Medium-Term Assistance (SMTA) application or apply to renew your existing assistance on or after 1 April 2025.
The increase depends on your household circumstances:
If your household circumstances (e.g., income level, needs) remain unchanged or have worsened (e.g., lost income), you can expect higher assistance.
If your family's circumstances have improved (e.g., gained income), you may see a reduction in cash assistance at the next point of assessment. However, this reduction will not take place immediately.
