How long will it take to process an application for the return of a child under the Convention?
The length of time to process an application will vary depending on the factors of the case, e.g., if the taking parent refuses to cooperate or if the child cannot be located.
After the Singapore Central Authority has received the application form, the Singapore Central Authority will reach out to left behind parent to understand the situation and encourage parents to voluntarily resolve the matter. However, if the left behind parent or taking parent is not agreeable to a voluntary resolution, the left behind parent may file an application in Court in person or through his/her lawyer.
