Witnessing of the Donee(s)’s signature is no longer required with the launch of OPGO. What are the safeguards in place to ensure that there is no fraud?

Removing the requirement for the Donee’s signature to be witnessed will bring about greater convenience to the donor and Donee. The risks of fraud in removing this requirement are low. Donees must be persons known to and trusted by the donor. In that light, Donees must also know the donors well and want to undertake the responsibility of being a Donee. In order to accept the appointment as Donee, a Donee will have to log in to OPGO using his Singpass, which will allow OPGO to verify his/her identity. OPGO will also send notifications to a Donee at various points in the registration process, which ensures that the Donee is aware and can raise objections to his appointment if he wants to.
