Who can assist a person lacking mental capacity to apply for a Professional Deputy and how is this done?
Usually, the patient’s next of kin will make the application. However, for persons without next of kin, third parties such as social workers from hospitals, nursing homes and social service agencies may approach Professional Deputies to apply to be their Deputies. Third parties may refer to the list of registered Professional Deputies at https://www.msf.gov.sg/what-we-do/opg/about-PDD-scheme and approach the preferred professional directly to enquire about their services and charges.
