If I as a professional Deputy will be absent for a prolonged period of time e.g. long medical leave from 3 months onwards, what should I do?
In the event that the appointed PD is required to take a planned temporary leave of absence (e.g. vacation leave, medical leave, maternity leave), he/s must notify OPG of the reasons for and period of absence and provide a letter of authority to the successor deputy to enable the successor deputy to act in his stead during the stipulated interim period. The PD should provide adequate updates regarding P for Successor PD to make the best decision possible for P during this period.
Should PD suffer from ill health and have difficulty discharging his duties as a PD for prolonged period, the Successor PD can act in interim absence and for permanent replacement of the PD.
Should PD’s medical condition worsen which renders him incapable to continue act on P’s behalf, the Successor Deputy should apply to Court to vary the Court Order to discharge himself as the PD and appoints the Successor Deputy or appoint another applicant as the new PD for P. OPG strongly encourages that another Successor Deputy be named in the new application to Court.
