When and how should I end my GIRO arrangement for levy payment?
You should end your GIRO arrangement in any of these situations:
- You have stopped hiring your worker/helper and do not plan to use the same bank account for future levy payments.
- You have stopped hiring your worker/helper and the bank account used for GIRO belongs to someone else.
- You have terminated or expired your GIRO arrangement with your bank.
- Inform MOM: Log in to Check and pay foreign worker levy and select Update GIRO option in your account summary or under GIRO.
- Contact your bank: Terminate the GIRO arrangement directly with your bank, as MOM cannot do this on your behalf.
Completing only one step is insufficient and may lead to complications:
If you only inform MOM (Step 1): MOM will stop deducting levy, however your bank records will still show an active GIRO arrangement.
If you only inform your bank (Step 2): Your bank will stop deductions, but MOM's system will continue attempting to deduct payments, potentially resulting in transaction failure charges imposed by your bank.
