Updated by MOM

Employers are fully responsible for the medical expenses incurred by their Work Permit and S Pass holders. Those who do not purchase the enhanced medical insurance (MI) coverage will bear the financial risks if their workers incur large medical bills.

Employers who refuse to comply with the enhanced MI requirements may be fined up to $10,000. In addition, employers who are unable to meet their obligations to pay for their workers’ medical expenses will be fined up to $10,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 12 months. They may also be barred from employing migrant workers.
