What is the Standard Integrated Shield Plan?
The Standard Integrated Shield Plan (IP) is an IP offered by private insurers targeted at covering Ward B1 or equivalent bills in public hospitals.
As the Standard IP benefits are set by the Government and identical across all IP insurers, the Standard IP gives Singapore Residents a standardised option for additional coverage beyond MediShield Life. It is also a viable option for those who want to switch from their Class A IP and Private Hospital IP to a more affordable plan.
Similar to other IPs, the Standard IP comprises the MediShield Life component and the additional private insurance component. Premiums for the additional private insurance component are set by the private insurers.

Why can’t the Government provide and administer the Standard Integrated Shield Plan, to ensure that premiums are more affordable and to cover pre-existing conditions with risk-loading, similar to MediShield Life?
