What are Integrated Shield Plans and should I consider getting one?
Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) provide additional coverage beyond MediShield Life. IPs comprise 2 components:
(i) the MediShield Life component administered by the Central Provident Fund Board, and
(ii) the additional private insurance component by private insurers that provides greater coverage intended to cover unsubsidised bills, such as those incurred from Ward A/B1 stays in public hospitals or private hospital stays. There is no duplicate coverage between MediShield Life and IPs.
The list of IPs and comparison of their coverage and premiums can be found here.
As IPs provide additional coverage, premiums for IPs are higher than MediShield Life’s, and they are only payable by MediSave up to the Additional Withdrawal Limits below.
