How does MOH keep seniors active and engaged? What are some key measures?
In tandem with Healthier SG, MOH adopts a tailored approach to support seniors to age actively and healthily.
A key strategy is to offer a wide range of Active Ageing Programmes (AAPs) to help seniors maintain their physical, mental, and social health. We launched the ‘Live Well, Age Well’ initiative in 2020 to offer a wide range of free and exciting activities for adults aged 50 and above. The AAPs are currently offered island-wide, in accessible community locations like Active Ageing Centres (AACs). We aim to reach over 550,000 participants from 2023 to 2027.
Another key strategy is to expand the reach and offerings of Active Ageing Centres (AAC) to promote healthy ageing among seniors living nearby in the community. An AAC is a drop-in social recreational centre for seniors aged 60 and above to: (a) build strong social connections (b) take part in recreational activities, and (c) contribute to the community. MOH is investing around $800 million from FY2024 to FY2028 to better resource AACs and benefit more seniors.
