The intent of financial counselling is to ensure that all patients are informed and assured of their treatment and fees, to make informed decisions about their treatment, especially if such treatment may be higher in cost.

In cases where the patient refuses financial counselling, financial counselling could still be considered completed, as long as the patient is provided with the relevant information (e.g. via a financial counselling form) and acknowledges receipt of such information.
